Introducing Hoss! Sometimes lovingly called Clifford - because he is a big, red dog - Hoss is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever. He is a love bug that loves nothing more than laying on your lap and having his tummy scratched. He is 85 pounds, but he thinks he’s a tiny Chihuahua, and I haven’t had the heart to break it to him.

Hoss was surrendered to RAGOM because he has a thyroid condition. Fortunately for Hoss, his condition is easily managed by twice-daily thyroid medication. He takes his meds in a pill pocket, but would also readily eat them in his food.

His condition will need to be monitored by a vet and his medicine adjusted as necessary. Because of his thyroid being untreated until recently, Hoss does have a rougher coat and dryer skin than normal, but with medication and love, his coat will fill in nicely and he’ll be a beautiful dog.

Hoss had a checkup at the vet. He wouldn’t let anyone in the office pass him without giving him a couple of ear scratches. His vaccines were brought up to date, and he was microchipped. He does have a double ear infection, but he’s very patient with the ear meds and it should be cleared up in no time. Hoss was also neutered.

He rides nicely in the car and likes to look at the world passing by. We are working on walking nicely on a leash, as he has a tendency to want to pull, but it’s not unmanageable.

Hoss loves blankets. He will seek out any blanket he can find for a snooze. He sleeps through the night on a blanket in our bedroom.

You could almost hear his contented sigh as he snuggles under his blankie.

Hoss has been very friendly with every dog he’s met. He likes to wrestle and play with our resident Golden.

Hoss is very gentle with children and seeks kids out for attention. He is a big dog that thinks he’s small, so he does need to be monitored around kids to make sure he doesn’t knock over really small children.

Hoss is a gentle giant. He would make any family very happy. Is that family you?

Big, red, handsome!
