Jewel is a two year old female who was rescued from an Iowa Puppy Mill. This poor girl has spent a life without any positive human contact, horrible living conditions, and constant motherhood. She joined RAGOM scared, hungry, filthy, and infested with hookworms (she's now cleaned up, eating well, and has been successfully treated to rid her system of those pesky hookworms!).

- 6/9/2009This is Azalea or Zalee for short. She was a puppy mill rescue from Iowa in April of 2001. Her RAGOM name was Jewel after the town where the mill was located.Zalee has flowered from being a very shy, scared mill dog to a blossom of peacefulness and ease. She is by far the most dependable dog I've ever had! And extremely photogenic!This is Zalee enjoying the sounds of Lake Superior.This is Mystic (on left) (fka Cooper 07-561) and Zalee again.
- 5/24/2001Jewel went swimming this last week! She was a lifesaver (much to Sabrina's chagrin!!!). Sabrina swam out to the end of her lead and Jewel went out and retrieved her by grabbing her lead and hauling her back to me. : ) LOL. - 5/20/2001Jewel is the most incredible girl. She acclimates so quickly. She isn't liking her bath much (she's getting resigned to it), but doesn't mind having her toe nails clipped or feet hair cut. She walks at an almost perfect heel (except on the right side) when we take walks. She hasn't had an accident in the house for over a week now. - 5/13/2001Jewel has had quite a week again. She went to the vet to have a procedure done that cleaned out her ears way down to her eardrum. She was found to have a narrow ear canal that is very deep. This makes her more prone to ear infections. We currently have her on medication and will be taking her back to the vet in 10 days for a re-check and possibly to repeat the procedure. - 5/6/2001Jewel is doing GReat! She was spayed on Monday and it is healing incredibly well. She doesn't lick or bother the stitches at all. We've been to the vets a few times and she follows right in behind me. They shower her with attention and she eats up their treats. When we go for walks she is not pulling on the lead, but rather walking just behind my knees or just off to the side. When I feed her she is dancing all over and has this cute way of pouncing from side...

It's as though she's just realizing she won't get in trouble for being happy and joining in the fun.
