Meet Jimmy.

Jimmy is a 7-year-old male purebred Golden Retriever, who came from a loving and caring home in Minnesota. He was brought in to his surrendring owner’s family when he was two months old. They got Jimmy from a private breeder in Rockford, IL. His surrendering family has loved him dearly for the past seven years, but due to the family’s current busy lifestyle, they felt they could no longer give Jimmy the time he deserves and made the difficult decision to surrender him to RAGOM.

Jimmy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventative medication. He has no history of serious health issues, but he is currently suffering from an ear infection. Just like many Golden Retrievers, he tends to suffer from ear infections from time to time. On the bright side, he tolerates ear cleanings and medication applications quite well.

He is a big boy with lots of love to give. His current weight is approximately 109 lbs. He has been on a weight control diet previously and we will be working on getting him to a health weight by watching the number of treats he eats and getting in some much needed exercise. Jimmy enjoys being outside and does not mind the snow at all. He loves to roll and dig his nose into the snow like a goofball.

Jimmy is very well-mannered, and he knows basic commands: stay, sit, shake, and come. He has a laid-back nature about him. He enjoys to be where ever the action is. He will either be at your side or laying down by your feet, but ideally, he would prefer to have all the attention on him whenever possible. His favorite toy is a tennis ball; he would be a happy camper if he had an automatic fetching machine to throw the ball all day long. Jimmy was crate trained as a puppy and he did not seem to mind being in a crate for the first couple of nights after his arrival to his foster home. He is now allowed to freely roam on the main area of his foster home while his Foster Mom is gone. He respects baby gates and has not been destructive when left alone. Jimmy is very friendly towards people. He has yet to be introduced to any new dogs since entering foster care. However, he has seen a few dogs on his walks from afar and is very curious to meet them. He does get a little scared and anxious when he hears thunder and loud noises, especially noises from big, loud trucks.

Jimmy’s needs in his future forever home:

  • A fence is not a requirement, but I know he would enjoy being able to run free either in a fenced backyard or at a dog park from time to time, instead of being on a leash.
  • He is going to need someone to dedicate time to exercising and mentally stimulating him on a daily basis to keep him happy and at a healthy weight.
  • Jimmy had many areas of matted hair when he entered foster care. He is going to need grooming on a constant basis to prevent his hair from matting up and to keep him looking handsome.
  • Because of his size and his strength, I think he would best fit in a family that has older children.

Getting know Jimmy over the past week has been a joy. I know that he would make a wonderful addition to a family or an individual’s life. He is such a lovable dog with an endearing white face. He is patiently waiting to share all of his unconditional love. Please consider adopting Jimmy.
