Profile

Kara came into RAGOM via a partner organization in Iowa. She was picked up as a stray, but her owner surrendered her to the local shelter and eventually she became a RAGOM girl. Because Kara is partially deaf, sudden movements and loud noises will startle her, so children in her new home should be at least 10 years old. She can live with other low energy dogs, but she would also thrive as an only dog. She does fine with older, dog savvy cats and would be okay with an unfenced yard as long as there is a plan to keep her safe. She is showing signs of arthritis, so fewer stairs are better.

Our Hospice Girl Kara (22-326) headed off to the Rainbow Bridge last night. We knew with her hemangiosarcoma diagnosis she wouldn’t have a long life expectancy, but RAGOM was able to give her six good months. She took a turn for the worse on Monday and slipped quietly away last night. We imagine that her foster brother Charlie, only recently arrived at the Bridge, was happy to see her and has taken her in hand to show her the ropes.

Hi, this is Kara speaking. I'm trying my hand at writing my own update. I hope you like it. My foster mom and dad have told me that, while I'm officially a "hospice dog", they think that there are a lot of you who would like to find out how I'm doing.   I really like it here with my two younger foster brothers and my older foster sister kitty. We love our big, soft beds, our meals topped with yummy green beans, our dog treats, and our daily pieces of Romaine Lettuce. We all get to go...

We were hoping to come back and report that Kara's dental work and lipoma removal went well and she was recovering and ready for her forever family.  In a way, she has found her forever family with the foster family who first welcomed her into their home. A routine biopsy of the fatty tumor revealed hemangiosarcoma, an agressive form of cancer which has a very low survival rate. After consultations with her vet and the RAGOM care team, they came to the difficult decision to not put her thro...

Please welcome sweet Kara to the RAGOM family. Kara is a 10-year-old Golden who has likely not had the easiest of lives. Here is what little we know about her past. She was picked up by Animal Control while wandering around. Her owner was located but did not want to take her back. After a Vet exam it appeared that she had suffered a broken jaw several years ago and part of the wire used to repair it was still in her mouth.  When she came to her foster home, her skin was also pretty dry and...
