Please welcome Miss Katie to the RAGOM family. Katie is a ~ 15-year-old golden mix who was brought to a shelter as a stray. She had a check-up with our wonderful RAGOM vet Dr. M. and passed with flying colors for a gal of a certain age. Katie is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations, negative for fecal and heartworm tests, microchipped, and her bloodwork is perfect. As one would expect, she does have arthritis and her elbows are particularly sore. Katie also has a lump on her back, about midway between her neck and tail. Dr. M. said that the lump is bone due to overgrowth of a vertebra. We started her on an anti-inflammatory medication and she seems much more comfortable. Because of her arthritis, we are going to try and keep Katie at her current weight of about 50 lbs.
As for personality, Katie is a gem! Some dogs settle in like they've been here forever, and Katie is one of those dogs. She met the resident dogs, cats, and rabbit and gets along with each species just fine. Katie has been housetrained from day one and figured out the household routines very quickly. Every night just before bedtime, all the good dogs settle in their beds and get treats. Katie is now the first one in bed (on the second floor!), just waiting for those young whippersnappers to catch up. Katie may be an older girl, but she is still very much a joyful kid at heart.
