Kato is an incredibly handsome, friendly, 6 year old, soon to be neutered, purebred Golden Retriever. Kato was surrendered to RAGOM due to an illness in his family.

There are so many good things to say about Kato! He’s housebroken, fine with free roam for a full work day, doesn’t get on the furniture, and sleeps quietly through the night snuggled up next to our bed. Kato doesn’t beg from the table, takes treats gently, sits nicely when we fill his food bowl, and waits for permission to eat. Kato gets excited and spins circles and “talks” when we get home and when we get his leash out for walks, but he knows to keep four on the floor.

Kato came from a family with small children. Our neighbor, O, thinks Kato would do great with a family with kids. Kato sniffed O over, and then rolled on his back for a belly rub. We want to send O a special thank you for always being willing to meet our foster dogs and let us know what he thinks. Thanks O!

Kato loves his walks, loves to play in the lake, and is very good about returning a tennis ball. We don’t have a fenced yard so have been working on his recall using a long lead. His recall is great about 99% of the time, but once in a while he’ll catch scent of something more interesting than us and will want to head off in another direction.

Kato and resident Josie get along fine. Sometimes Kato gets a little too amorous with Jo, but he’s good about listening to her when she tells him enough is enough.

Kato is pretty good at walking on a leash with just a flat collar. Occasionally he’ll pull on the leash and when he does, hang on tight! This petite boy can pull like a freight train. We think his leash walking and recall, along with his amorous feelings for Josie, will improve after his neuter.

Kato has been brushed from nose to tail, had a couple of baths, and had his nails trimmed all without a bit of fuss from him. He is as easy going as they come. He is also a great passenger in the car.

Kato weighed 45# at his wellness exam. He is up to date on his vaccinations. His paperwork says he has occasional seizures but is not on meds for them, and hasn’t had one in months. He did test positive for Lyme, but is asymptomatic, so chances are he’s just been exposed to Lyme and doesn’t actually have Lyme disease. We will test his urine protein levels at his neuter surgery just to make sure things are a-ok.

Kato is scheduled for his neuter surgery this week. Once his surgery is done he’ll be ready to meet potential adopters. Please let your placement advisor know if you’d like to learn more about Kato.
