This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.
A very frightened, but beautiful, Golden Retriever girl peeks out from the side of my bed. Meet Kayla! She has been at my house for a little over a week, and each and every day is a new experience for her. She has never lived in a house before or been cared for by people who love her. Kayla, for the last five years, has been busy turning out litters of puppies. Fortunately, Kayla has been retired from her breeding life and is now ready to enter the Golden Life she so deserves. We
Because she is scared and shy, Kayla has not been to visit the vet yet. As soon as she can conquer her fears about going outside and riding in cars, we will get her to the vet to be brought up-to-date on vaccinations, get microchipped, checked for heartworm, and any other issues that may arise. Kayla also needs to be spayed. She appears to be healthy, but overweight. She would not eat the first two days she was at my house, but is now eating regularly. Kayla did not know what treats were about, but now takes them from our hands. When she arrived at my house, we could not get her into a crate, so she found her safe spot beside my bed on a large dog bed. She always goes there when she's frightened, but she is starting to venture out to check the rest of the house. She is not house-trained and because she is so fearful of going outside, it may take a little while. We do manage to go outside several times a day for a short time, and I'm hoping soon we can begin to take short walks. When Kayla finds her forever home, it would be great if she had a fenced yard.
Kayla is making visible progress every day. Her tail wags constantly when we're around her and she will actually look up at us when we talk to her. She likes to be brushed. Tummy rubs are new to her, but she loves them. She picks up stuffie puppy toys and carries them around with her and sleeps with them. Kayla is going to be a wonderful, loving companion for someone. If you have an interest in this beautiful Golden girl, please contact your placement advisor. Right now, we're just taking it a day at a time and celebrating each and every small victory so she can become the Golden girl she was meant to be!!
