Let me introduce you to Liam. He is estimated to be about 5, but he could be younger. He is now neutered and UTD. Liam appears to be a mix of retriever, lab and possibly some terrier. He has that facial hair that is typical of terriers. Liam and Hope 08-591 are the parents of Shawney (08-576), Copper (08-577), and Scout (08-578). Liam, Hope and their pups were rescued after being abandoned in a corn field, in the middle of nowhere, in Iowa. I do not believe that Liam and Hope had ever been inside a home, nor does it seem like they were used to regular interactions with humans. Their living conditions were quite bad and we know they did not have access to food and water on a regular basis. Liam is also very skinny and underweight, so we are working hard on getting some meat on him. Liam immediately understood that humans could be good and was much more outgoing than his companion Hope. Liam actually sought out attention from humans and since he has been here, it is quite apparent that he loves living inside, getting regular meals, and getting love and attention.
Liam needs to learn some manners and basic commands. He doesn't understand the word no, and jumps up on you to 'hug' you, which is sweet, but something that we probably need to control and teach him more appropriate greeting behavior.
Liam was in boarding for two weeks and got along great with all dogs he met. He also met some children there and did great. Since Liam has been here, he has not had an accident, nor has he gotten into anything and doesn't chew on anything inappropriate. Actually he doesn't chew on anything at all; I don't think he understands what toys and bones are and he doesn't even eat treats when you try to give them to him but he eats his kibble like a champ! Liam doesn't like to be crated and when I try to baby gate him, he finds a way to knock the baby gate over, but it isn't a problem since he doesn't get into anything or have any accidents.
Right now Liam is sleeping next to me. He is so sweet and once he learns some basic commands, he is going to be a wonderful addition to any family that wants to give this guy a golden life after the beginning of his life was not so great.
