Profile

Lucy came into RAGOM via an impound. She is a sweet girl who enjoys learning commands and strives to please. Lucy can be overexuberant when meeting another dog. Whether she can live with another dog will be dependent on the resident dog in the home and their personality. Lucy will need a physically fenced home. Any children in the home must be at least 13 years old. Continued behavioral training is strongly recommended to improve her manners. Lucy has not been tested with cats.

Lucy has been adopted! She found her forever family with Dave and Vicki H. and new fur-brother Dexter. It’s a great match – Lucy will be living out in the country and have lots of adventures. Dave and Vicki are experienced with training and working with dogs who need a little extra attention. They’ve participated in dog agility competitions and they even have a lake and a dock in case Lucy wants to be a dock dog (we think she’ll be great at it). Lucy is such a sweet girl...

Lucy loves the cold weather and the beginnings of the snow. Incredibly, she seems even more playful than before. Also, her sweetness really cannot be overstated. Today I was having a bad day, and she climbed into my lap and gave me kisses unprompted. Also, whenever anybody comes to the door (after a proper few barks for protection, of course), she leans against them for pets and asks for belly rubs. She will be someone’s wonderful companion and friend and co-adventurer. Here is a video of...

Big update on Lucy! We took her to doggy day camp, and she was great, showing no problem with all the other dogs. So, it is clear that her barking at dogs is not aggression; it is just “barrier frustration.” She really wants to say hi and play. Now we can say that Lucy would be just fine in a home with other dogs. Lucy continues to progress on her training. She still barks at other dogs through the fence, to be honest, but we keep working with her. She’s gotten better at being...

Lucy continues to be a delight in the house. She is very energetic and playful. We’ve attached a video of her playing fetch in the yard. Look how nicely she drops the ball! She is so smart and responds so well to training. A friend with a four-year-old came over, and Lucy played with him very nicely, so now we know she’s also great with kids older than toddlers. (We still haven’t been around toddlers with her, so that just hasn’t been tested.) We’re continuing to w...

We have had Lucy for just about 4 weeks now. Lucy is a very sweet girl and super smart. She will make the best best friend for the right family. Her family has to be very active and dedicated to her training. Lucy needs a lot of exercise and stimulation. She would be great on hikes or doing agility. Seriously, she is so smart, the smartest dog we’ve ever been around. She has absolutely no problems in the house. Lucy has full run of the house and has had no accidents or incidents. She does...

Lucy has great news to share with you, she now has her very own foster home! Lucy did very well in Boarding, but it is so much better to have a home with a wonderful family to spend time with.  I think Lucy is pretty excited and happy with this great news! One of Lucy’s favorite volunteers wanted share her thoughts and experiences with Lucy as a send off and beautiful update for Lucy’s page: On my first walk with her, I made sure to hold on to her leash tight. RAGOM had prepare...

Lucy is still residing in a boarding facility. Thankfully, she has a few dedicated volunteers that come and get her out for walks and adventures. One day when I went to visit, I brought her a special treat: a real marrow bone. I thought it would be fun for her to have something to chew on to help pass her time in boarding. Big mistake! That bone was too rich for her delicate tummy. She ended up with bloody diarrhea for 6 days, a vet visit, Metronidazole, and prescription probiotics. Lesson learn...

Yay, Lucy made it through her 14-day quarantine for kennel cough! She is such a trouper. It was hard on me, too. I felt better when I was able to arrange outings for her.She had many wonderful volunteers who came to give her a break from her kennel. I loved the following update that a volunteer shared after she spent with Lucy. It summarizes Lucy well. It is nice to see others enjoy Miss Lucy, too!“I spent some time with Lucy today at boarding. She gave me two paws up for our greeting...

Poor Lucy is being treated for kennel cough. She is now isolated and crated for 10 days. I am sure it is hard to pass her time without things to see for entertainment and distraction. Rescue can be hard for dogs. I have been trying hard to get her out of her kennel to enjoy some adventures. That means lots of walking, and pictures with long tongues.During our walks, I am noticing that Lucy has a fair amount of prey drive. Her nose is always sniffing and hunting.&nbs...

This great looking dog is Lucy! Like all rescues, she, too, has a story. Lucy found herself at an impound in Iowa after being turned in because “the new girl friend” didn’t like dogs. I can’t imagine not liking Lucy, especially with those beautiful, expressive eyes and ears! This is what the great folks at impound had to say:"When we walked Lucy by the other impounds, she would go up to greet the other dogs. The pound has a resident Pitbull that sh...
