This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Murphy is a beautiful, dark red purebred Golden Retriever. He is almost two years old and acts like a big puppy! Murphy weighs 66 pounds and has the wonderful Golden temperament; he is friendly, playful and loves being with people. Murphy has been an outside farm dog for the past year and a half and did not have the opportunity to learn to be an indoor pet. As a result, he will need a Forever Home committed to obedience training to become the perfect family pet.

Murphy is housetrained and crate trained, but still has typical puppy behaviors like jumping up on people/counters/furniture, mouthing, and chewing on things that are not his. Murphy already knows how to sit and seems to be a quick learner. Murphy pulled on the leash the first time we walked him, so the next time we used a Gentle Leader and he did so much better! Murphy has been sleeping in a crate during the night and is crated while we are at work, and he is doing well with that. He is a total lover and just wants to please his people, so I think with some consistency, he will learn good manners.

Murphy was at the vet this week and aside from an ear infection in both ears, he is a healthy boy. About a year ago, he had a growth removed by his right eye and the vet said it looks like his stitches were ripped out, resulting in an eyelid defect and some goofy hair follicles, so in some of his photos, you may see the hair sticking out by his eye. The vet trimmed the hair and said that his eye is healthy and normal. He was so well-behaved at the vet and he absolutely loves car rides! He sits in the back seat calmly and just enjoys the ride. We were also told that swimming is another one of his favorite things!

Murphy gets along great with other dogs, but he would also make a great only dog in a Forever Family. He likes to play, although he seems to know when it's time to quit. His surrendering owners said he did not get along with cats. He also came from a family with young children, but since he has been living outside and still needs training, we would recommend a family with older children. We were told that at the farm, he would run off and visit the neighbors, but with some recall training, this may not be an issue, so we don't think a fence is required for his Forever Home.

Murphy is a nice dog and needs a family to keep him on the road to becoming an obedient dog!
