Profile

My name is Red,

I've had a pretty tough life until now (I am about 5-6 years old). I had been hit by a car when I was about 1 year old. The lady who found me did not want the vet she contacted to remove my leg. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a wrong decision. Because my hip was unable to heal properly the lady decided she did not want me. I was then fostered by a nice lady in her home until my leg could be amputated and heal properly.

Once I returned to the Humane Society I found a home on a farm where I was able to roam free. I roamed too far on occasion and had to hitchhike home on a busy highway. My friends tell me it's a miracle that I have not been shot or run over by now. Farmers that find strays on their farm are instructed to shoot them.

My prior mom was notified; and after a lengthy discussion the decision was made that I would be surrendered to RAGOM. She didn't want me safe in our fenced in back yard. She thought I should be able to roam free.

Don't overlook me because you think I have a disability. I love to run and play with my foster family and their two dogs. I don't know why people think four legs are better than three, I seem to get along great with three legs. They also have other small animals that have pointy ears and purr a lot, but I just ignore them.

I still have to go to the Vet this week to get a check-up, so I'll write more later. It's time for my nap.

After 5 1/2 years of love and devotion, I’m having to post Red’s final update. A few days ago, while we were on vacation in California, Red suddenly started to have difficulty getting up. Although we thought it was a muscle/pain issue that we could get on top of, we learned yesterday that Red had an infection raging in his abdomen that was too far advanced for us to fix. I (Karen) was going to fly home to hold him while he passed away, but the vet said that he wasn’t goin...

Hi Kim!Finally got some pictures of Red with the kids today, what a job that was. Now I know why I put it off so long! Trying to get 4 kids and 2 dogs to look at a camera simultaneously is, um, shall we say - challenging.Red is doing GREAT. The first night he was up some, but since he got up Saturday he's been back to normal, not a sign of discomfort. Went on his walk yesterday and today peppy as ever, played with Mindy last night, and picked up a tennis ball today in his mouth for awhile. He ab...
