Welcome to RAGOM Rocky!!!

Let me introduce to you the most beautiful 13 yr old gentlemen.  He is always by my side, looking up at me with his adorable face, sweetest soul, saying pet and love me some more...Rocky enjoys the simple things in life.  Warm bed, leisure walks around the neighborhood and some XOXOX's.

Rocky has always been a outside dog his whole life, so he has had to adjust to some big lifestyle changes.  But I think he is welcoming these changes because he walks around following me from room to room with his tail wagging and smiling. He is an absolute love bug and has aged to perfection!!!

Rock has been very busy since he has been with me.  He arrived the day before Thanksgiving and has been very busy since his arrival. He stopped in to the vet to introduce himself, had a physical, then was swept off to the spa for some TLC.  Let me tell you he came out looking and smelling like a new man.  The ladies there said he was the perfect gentlemen.

He was the perfect host for Thanksgiving. He laid very patiently around the table waiting for food that "accidentally" fell off of the plates, then helped himself to some Bailey's Irish cream that was left on the coffee table. Rocky went to bed that night smiling with a full and content belly:0).

He loves kids as he came from a house with them, and also some neighbor kids that adored him as well. He wanted to also thank Sue for helping out on looking after him and his sister and wanted to wish her a very "Merry Christmas".

Still not sure how Rock would be around cats as I do not have any, but he is doing pretty good around my 3 dogs.  He has butted heads with one several times, but he is getting better.

Rocky does have some hip/knee concerns, and has been put on pain meds for that.  He is doing so much better since he has been taking them.  When he first came here, he had a very hard time getting up, but now is able to get up on his own. And this is with hardwood floors.

He is scheduled to be "snipped" this week, and at the same time will have some x-rays done to see what exactly is going on with his back end.  He also has started taking some supplements, so that should start to help him out as well.

I will send a update after his surgery on Wednesday.  Keep your paws crossed!!!

Never in our wildest imaginations would we have expected our beloved Rocky to be with us for almost 2 years. With his passing, we are deeply saddened yet grateful for the time we got to spend with him.

Rocky embodied everything we adore about Golden Retrievers - he was gentle, unconditionally loving, and wanted nothing more than to be by our sides day or night. He gave us many wonderful memories, which we will treasure forever.

I want to thank the you once more for bringing such a beautiful senior into our lives - without your selfless acts of kindness to rescue Goldens, we never would have gotten the chance to share our home with such a deserving pup.

Below is a picture we took in early November which we used as our Christmas card (we decided on a Motorcycle Gang theme this year). Rocky was distracted during the shot, but still looks like a million bucks. The bandana around his head is supposed to make him look tough. He loved the car ride there, did a few poses, had a few snacks, and then enjoyed a nap on the way back.

He was awesome up to the end... His rear legs just finally quit working.

Everyone who knew him is so sad to see him go - we tell them that we were simply thrilled to get 2 years out of a dog that we expected to be with us just a few weeks or months when we first took him in. It's hard not having him around but we wouldn't change anything - we loved having him as part of our family.

We joke fondly about him alot. Earlier this week we couldn't find one of the kid's toys and my 7 year old says "Dad, if Rocky was still with us then we'd know he just ate it". He chewed and ate a few toys over the years.... And my 3 year old has mentioned Rocky a few times (like when she notices nobody is lying by her feet during dinner, just waiting for food scraps to fall) and how he is now in Heaven. So precious.

Sincerely,

Mark, Lynelle, Jake, Dana, Sage, and Roxie

It's yours truly - Rocky.

So it's been 2 months since moving into my forever home and I'm pleased to announce that everything is really, really great.  As each day goes by, my family learns more about my character and what makes me such a great catch.

I do have one big piece of news to share with you!  I have a new name.... well sorta.  You see, my 2 year old human sister doesn't pronounce her R's completely so she calls me "ocky".  I gotta admit, it is cute.  So cute that everyone is now starting to call me Ocky.  To be honest, I can't really tell the difference.  But they believe it does help distinguish my name from Roxie, my GR sister, who they tend to now call 'Rox".  Rox and I talked it over and neither of us care so long as they keep the treats coming.

I'm getting around the house great.  Actually, my family would say I'm doing outstanding.  This is because I've totally mastered the stairs and will go up and down about 6 times a day.  And that's the long ones.  The short stairs next to the kitchen are a breeze and I do those a good dozen times per day.  While Mom and Dad were both surprised and excited that I could do this, they were a bit concerned as I might go up/down when nobody is home and get into trouble.  They now have a gate on the long stairs that they put up when they are not home.  I don't mind because I've got full use of the main level and can lay anywhere I want.  And boy can I lay aroung better than anyone!

Even though I do get around great, I still dread slippery surfaces.  Needless to say, I haven't gone on many walks lately.  The last time I went out, about 2 weeks ago, it was 40 degrees and beautiful - no ice on the roads at all.  Dad, me, and Roxie planned to go for a short 4 block jaunt and had just hit the 1/2 way mark when I decided to plop down on the street in front of a neighbor's house.  At first Dad thought I was tired, or hit a patch of ice but I wasn't breathing heavy and there was no ice under me.  After a couple of attempts to get me going, he realized we might be sitting there for awhile.  Fortunately, the homeowner had just gotten home and Dad was able to kill 10 minutes by striking up a conversation with him while I laid there.  They both thought I was a goof.  But the story doesn't end there.  After they got done talking, Dad again tried to get me up and going.  No dice.  So he picked me up and started carrying me home, with Roxie walking right beside us.  He said carrying 80 pounds for 1-1/2 blocks is a great workout.  After setting me down, I decided that I now wanted to walk again and gladly trotted the remaining 1/2 block home.  Yes, I trotted as if I suddenly had lots of energy and was ready for a 5 mile jog.  He was laughing the whole way back because he just can't figure me out.  I'm odd.

Mom gets a kick out of me because I've really turned into a velcro dog.  I go upstairs with her at night and sleep next to her side of the bed (which just happens to be the same side that Missy the cat sleeps on!).  During the day, when I'm not napping, I'll attach myself to either Mom or Dad.  What can I say, I'm a people lover.

I still have some accidents in the house.  Mom and Dad say I do well and they are still trying to get my schedule down so I get out at the right times during the day.  It's not a time/duration thing, since I can go for 8 hours at night with no problem.  And I get out often during the day.  I just don't have a sign worked out with them so they know when I need to make an un-scheduled pit stop.

My human 2-year old sister had a birthday party this last weekend, with about 15 family members over.  I did awesome and got lots of attention.

That's most of the exciting new stuff that I've been up to.  Hope you've had as exciting of 2009 as I have.

Oh yeah - I attached a pic so you can see I'm still very handsome.

Love,

Rocky

Hi, it's me Rocky!

You've probably been wondering what I've been up to.  You won't believe how busy I've been.

I've spent quite a bit of time getting to know my 2 GR sisters.  We hang out all day long and we've become good friends.  It didn't take them long to figure me out and we've had no issues at all.  I don't have any hang-ups with my personal space, so I don't mind it when they nap right next to me or the rest of the family is up close giving me smooches.  Seriously, these people have no concept of personal space.

A few weeks ago Dad complained that his home office was cold in the winter so us dogs came up with a plan.  We all sit close to him, in our favorite spot.  My favorite spot is in front of him, Roxie likes the left, and Sage's spot is near the doorway.  We are very quiet, and the only time he can hear us is when we snore.  With our breathing and body heat, he says the room is much warmer.  We haven't come up with a gameplan for keeping the office cool in the summer yet - no worries, we have plenty of time.

I haven't been able to nap close to the cat yet, but I'd like to.  At this point, I would have to describe my relationship with Missy the cat as 'intrigue'.  I love to watch her anytime she's downstairs.  She doesn't seem to mind, since I don't do her any harm.  Dad keeps telling me (when Mom is not around) that it's OK for me to eat the cat, but I just haven't been that hungry yet.

I love my human brother and sister - they are so gentle with me, as if they knew that I was fragile.  So I reciprocate and I try not to knock them over or step on their little feet with my big paws.  I must admit, however, that I am attracted to some of their small plastic toys.  They just look like they would be good treats to chew on.  I'm getting better about not eating their toys, but not making any promises that it won't happen again.

I'm also trying to do my best with housetraining.  I've had a couple of accidents during the day/evening, but none at night.  Mom and Dad take it in stride and say I'm not the first one to puke, poop, or pee on the carpet.  They sure were smart to buy a carpet cleaner awhile back.

I got to visit the vet a few weeks ago.  He was really impressed with me and didn't find any new issues or concerns.

Despite all that is good in my life, I do have one complaint.  Dad promised that he'd take me for lots of walks and he hasn't kept his word very well.  He keeps telling me it's too cold and slippery out there for me.  We'll keep on him about this.  He said today is perfect and we'll go for a walk later.  In the meantime, we walk around the yard to get exercise.

That's all the news I have for now.  As you can see, I'm really enjoying my senior life.  Hope all is well with you and your family too.

All my best,

Rocky

You and that cat crack me up!!!! You are so funny. I took my new foster Dallas to be cat tested last week. His paperwork said he had lived with cats early on in his life but I wanted to be sure. Well the cat hunched her back and hissed at him and I thought he was going to bolt RIGHT THRU THE DOOR to get to the car. It was the funniest thing. Obviously the cats ruled the roost where he lived before.

Ya know big guy. You waited a lot of years to hit it big but man it was worth the wait. You are a very lucky boy and I cannot tell you enough times how happy I am for you. You behave yourself now. I know you can be the best boy ever. Your notes make me laugh and I am glad you are catching up for what you had previously missed out on.

But I gotta know….. Have you mastered those steps from the family room to the kitchen? Tell me yes!!!

Thank you, thank you for keeping me posted. Your update made my day!!!!

It's me again.

Interesting that you should ask about the steps.  Just 2 days ago I was feeling really spunky and went up the three stairs for the first time.  That cat was just looking too delicious for me to stay where I was.

And the next day, I outdid myself and went all the way up to the top level - about 20 stairs!  Needless to say, Mom was shocked when I walked into her room.  It probably took me a couple of minutes, but I made it all the way up.

I then repeated the big performance today, but I didn't feel like going back down so Dad decided to carry me.  Mom and Dad aren't very excited about me rambling my way up at night and possible taking a fall, so they decided to put a baby gate at the bottom during the night.  But that's OK, cuz I got the whole lower level to myself and can sleep anywhere I want.

Glad I could make your day.  I'll keep you posted on the exciting things going on in my relaxing and carefree senior life.

Hey!  It's me, Rocky.

I think I can get used to living in my new home.

I just had my best Christmas ever!  I got to sit on the floor with everyone while they opened presents and I even got some presents just for me!  I devoured one of the rawhide bones after they unwrapped it and I saw some more treats that they said I could have later.  Can't wait.

These people are absolute push-overs.  They didn't freak out when I went #2 in the living room after being inside for only 10 minutes.  OK, they freaked a little, but they seem to be getting better seeing as I haven't had any accidents since.  They are treating me like a puppy, bringing me outside every 2 hours during the day.  I don't mind as it gives me a chance to stretch my legs and play in the snow.

Their kids have been very gentle with me and I get along with them great.  I also get along great with their GR Sage since she is a senior like me and really laid back.  Roxie, the young GR, and I have had a few grumblings, but hasn't been a big deal and I guess that's to be expected.  We'll probably be good friends shortly as we were already starting to play a little outside today.  Yup, it's really confusing to have a GR named Roxie and now me Rocky.  But they can tell I am hard of hearing so they speak softly when they want to talk to Roxie and they talk loud when they want to talk to me.  They also are calling me other names like Rock, Pumpkin, Big Paws, and Block Head.  I can't believe they actually call me block head. Oh well, I don't mind.

I think I would like to eat their cat.  I've seen her a couple of times but she's been too hard to get to so I haven't chased her.  Dad says he wouldn't care if I ate the cat, but I know Mom wouldn't let me.  I'll let you know what I decide to do.

I love to play in the snow outside.  I have a special area in the yard that Dad made for me.  He noticed that I was having a hard time getting through the deep snow to go potty so he cleared an area with the snowblower so I can just walk out in the yard.  I told you these people were push-overs.

I'm also getting better about going in and out of the house.  Yesterday, they said their heating bill doubled due to how long they had to leave the door open before I would come back in.  Not sure what that means, but I do know that I am liking the heat, carpet, and food they keep inside the house so I am trying to get faster.

The three of us GRs went for a walk last night and loved it.  Only went about 4 blocks but it felt good to get out and gave me a chance to learn the pace from my GR sisters.

They took some pictures of me, so check them out.  See how big my smile is?

C, thank you so much for helping my new family find me. You did awesome! And please let them know when they can get some of those pain meds you mentioned.  They are giving me glucosamine now, and have more on order, but I'll take more stuff if it makes me feel younger.

S, thank you for letting them adopt me, taking such good care of me when you didn't even know me, and teaching me how to live in a house.
Also, can you please let Mom and Dad know how much of the 2 pills that I can have each day?  They have 2 pills in a bag but not sure what to do with them.

I'll give you another update in a couple weeks or so when I have more news to report.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Years!

Love,
Rocky

Rocky has just left and moved on to his new home to live the golden life.

He really enjoyed his last day here.  He joined us in a wild football game in the snow.  He even was attempting to get the other dogs to rough house with him by biting at their ankles and necks.  He showed no signs of being a senior and enjoyed every minute we were out there.  I have a feeling Rocky is going to be very tired and have some aching muscles to deal with tomorrow.  And that goes for me too!!!

Good luck Rockster with your next chapter in life, I know you will be very loved and cared for.

Good morning everyone, Rocky here :0)

I have the most exciting news to share with everybody, and I really did not want to wait for FM to do my update, so here I go....

First off, I never did go to Auntie Cindy's house because I already have a family who wants to meet me tomorrow.  So instead of shuffling me around, my two FM's decided that I should hang out here until I have my very important day to strut my stuff and show what a wonderful gentleman I am.

I had a great time here last night, I think my tummy is still recovering from it.  I think you two legged creatures call it a Holiday party hangover!!  I got to help decorate the Christmas tree, watch some Christmas movies and ate popcorn with white cheddar on it until my belly was plump full.   It made me feel very special to be a part of their family tradition. I heard FM and sister say how happy I look being right there in the  middle of everybody, laying on my soft bed and enjoying all the excitement around me.  I didn’t even care when FM and sister started to sing off key :0).  I really do love them, and really appreciate everything they have done for me, but them girls cannot sing.  I really do hope that Santa slips some singing lessons under the tree for them.  FM and sis should just stick to helping all of us RAGOM kids out.  They are much better at that!!

Well I have to go...FM and I are heading out to shovel the snow from last night.  Well.. I make snow angels, and she shovels.

XOXOX

Rocky

Will somebody please take this
ridiculous hat off of me!!

Wishing you love, joy, and happiness
this holiday season. XOXOX Rocky

XOXO

XOXOX

Will somebody please take this
ridiculous hat off of me!!

Wishing you love, joy, and happiness
this holiday season. XOXOX Rocky
