Profile

5/26/07: We picked up Sadie Mae yesterday from Iowa (thanks Bob B for taking the difficult half of the transport) and I must say that Sadie is by far the best road-trip dog I have seen.  She just went in the back and played a little bit with my resident dog and then laid down.Last night we went to the dog park to burn off some steam and get some exercise after being in the car for over 6 hours and she did great.  She met many different dogs and people and was wonderful with all of them.  I have two little girls (4 & 7) and they already love her and she is so good with both of them.  My resident Golden and Sadie have not stopped playing ever since they met.  They have been sharing bones, rawhides, ropes, etc. without an incident!Sadie has followed every command that I have given - sit, stay, come, go lay down - she seems very, very smart.  One thing that needs to be worked on is her heeling, or lack of it :)  She would be a good sled dog because she does like to pull. Within just a few hours she is already doing much better.  I think she just needs to have some practice and maybe obedience classes.  I was told that she likes to jump up on people but so far she has had good manners in that area, too.  She did have an accident yesterday but I think it was because of all the changes and getting used to a new home. The owner did say she is housebroken.  Like my resident dog, Sadie may also be an excitement/submissive urinater.  I haven't seen it but the gentleman who helped transport her has.  She isn't crate trained so I thought I would give her some lessons because it's nice to have that option :)  She slept all night by the side of my bed with no problem.  I'm not sure what time she got up because my wonderful husband gets up with the dogs on the weekend so I can sleep in.So in summary, "perfect" dog who needs help with heeling.  I will try the Gentle Leader today and see how that works. She has an appointment at the vet on Tuesday so I will send out an update with the results.
