After a really long day Sancho has made it safely to Duluth. Sancho is a 12 year old pure bred male Golden. He is currently fostered north of Duluth, MN. On his arrival home he has had a good long drink and is out with Joe and the fur kids in the back yard. The greeting was careful and very civil, with all the usual sniffing. He rode home like a perfect gentleman. Asked to be petted with a gentle pat with his front paw. What a sweetie.

Sancho is in pretty tough shape. He is emaciated with very dry skin and an open sore on his front left paw. There are many lumps on his legs. One of the transport drivers reported that he has worms. His skin is so very dry and he scratches madly. But if I ask him to stop he will put his head in my lap and look at me. Rubbing between his ears seems to calm the scratching.

We contacted our vet by email on the way home and told him that we would like to have Sancho seen tomorrow. He was also driving home and emailed that he would check the schedule when he gets home and will give us a call tonight with a time for Sancho to be seen.

Wonderful news about sweet Sancho...we contacted our dear vet by email on the way north from the Cities. He arranged to see him at 8:40 today. To my surprise Sancho only has a skin infection...no cancer, which was my fear. He will be on 3 weeks of cephalexin 2 times a day. Will take hydrozyzine to help with the itching. That will have to clear up before we can have him neutered. No worms, heartworm and lymes free, Ears will need to be cleaned. Only weighs 62 pounds...but we will see that he has good food and a happy home. He has settled in with our three fur kids and had a visit with our housekeeper's dog today. With all the activity I expect that he will sleep well tonight.
