This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

I have the privilege of introducing Scooby. He was born March 28, 2014. He is nine months old & weighs approximately 50 pounds. Scooby is micro chipped, current on his vaccines, and will be ready for heartworm test/pills in the spring. Overall he is very healthy. He did see a specialist about his eyes. His eyelids fall away from his eyes slightly. He was diagnosed with ectropian. We don't know how this will affect Scooby yet. Some dogs have low level conjunctivitis due to the air exposure to the tissue under the eye. If he spends time outside, hunts, or swims he may have more issues with environmental irritations or foreign body exposure. Some dogs with ectropian eventually need surgical treatment, some dogs are just fine with no intervention. Scooby's doctor has recommended monitoring it for a bit as he is not fully grown yet. Scooby is shy in new situations and takes some time to warm up and trust new people. He has been with us now for 1 month. The first couple weeks he was a scared of new noises and people. He really took the lead from our two resident dogs, including sleeping on the bed. The first night he did this we smiled & slept soundly knowing he was feeling more comfortable and safe.

We took things very slow. He first warmed up to our dogs and then to our sons. He loves children, especially when they throw tennis balls or play tug-o-war with his rope toys. He has lots of puppy energy. He still does not like the unexpected. He is very cautious. We have a fenced yard & when the neighbor walked through his back yard next door Scooby growled and ran to the house. He is not aggressive, but he will growl slightly when he is unsure. ..with our reassurance he is gaining confidence each day. He has learned to trust and do many other things. Scooby rings the bells on our back door when he wants to go outside. If I am in another room & not near the back door he will come & get me to go outside. He’s a smart boy. He has had just a couple accidents in the house. It seems to happen when there is a new situation. Scooby will need obedience training and may need training designed for shy dogs. Like all Goldens he wants to please, gently nudges for attention, and stays close. He has free run of the house when we are home and only chews on his toys. He loves his tennis balls, stuffed toys, and Kongs. He plays well with other dogs.

He knows “sit” and “shake” well. He likes to show off for treats. He is working on the command “come”, but knows his name well and comes when I call his name. He is not yet a fan of his crate. We are working on helping him with that. Scooby has taken numerous car trips with us. He does get nauseous, but if he’s given Benedryl before the ride he does fine. He sleeps. Scooby is a puppy and needs all the love, time & attention, training, and consistency that all puppies need to feel safe and thrive. He has the sweetest disposition and really connects to people when he gets to know them. He will be a wonderful member of someone’s family.
