Hi everybody. My name is Skinny, but I am hoping that my next family will change it for me since it doesn't really fit me anyways. I was called that by my previous owner. Me and my litter mate Chubby came from a farm. I am 6 years old and my last owner had to move to town and sell the farm. Chubby and I were outdoor dogs with no indoor exposure. When Chubby and I got split up to come into RAGOM, I was very confused. I had no idea what was going on. I had to spend a night at the very nice "Stone Mountain Lodge", but it was totally foreign to me being inside and out of my element. Some very nice people came and picked me up from there to come live with them, but I still was very unsure about the whole thing. I really miss Chubby. On the ride to their house, I rode in the back of the truck, and barked a few times to let them know I was unsure of everything.
When we got to their house, they led me out to the back yard and I checked out the new pad. I sniffed around for a while before I got to meet the other residents there. When they let the one they call "Chief" out, I was very unsure of him because the only other dog I ever knew was Chubby, and he was WAY bigger than Chubby. I decided I needed to be vocal to tell him that I was very unsure of the whole thing. He just walked away and didn't seem to care. Then "Sally" came out and was also a very big dog. Again I decided to be vocal to tell her also. She still seemed very interested in me though, so I tried to avoid her. She left me alone after she sniffed me. I also met the resident cat, but I knew a cat at my old place, so I had no problems with that.
Being inside the house was a whole new experience for me! It took me a couple days to get up the courage to go up and down the stairs. I am still having a bit of trouble with the laminate flooring. Laminate flooring? Is that a different name for ice rink? Because that is sure what it feels like when I try to walk on it. I am also trying to get in the habit of going outside to go potty. I have had a couple accidents in the house, but hey, I am still trying to get the hang of all this. Don't you guys mark your areas? I have also been caught picking up some items that didn’t belong to me. So, for now I have to sleep in a kennel at night or when no one is home. I don't mind it at night, but I hate being in there during the day, so sometimes I bark.
There are two little kids here also, ages 2 and 5. I sure love people and I really love kids. I have to try to be more careful around the little ones. I just get so excited to see them and all I want to do is give them kisses. They really like me too and pet me a lot. I tend to stick close to the humans right now and don't want to let them out of my sight. But, really can you blame me? I lost my home of six years and my brother all in one day. I have been here for a week and am just starting to be a little less anxious.
Another new thing that I got to experience was a trip to the Vet's office. Yup, it was my first time. I weighed in at 66 pounds and got up to date on all my shots. With the exception of a couple of hot spots, the Vet said I looked pretty good. I go back to the Dr on Monday to get neutered. I wonder what that means...?
The first couple days, I wasn't hungry. Now my appetite has returned and am loving my more natural diet. At my old house I was fed Ol' Roy dog food. Who knew there was food out there that fills me up and makes me feel better?
I let my fosters groom me and clip my nails with no problem. It felt really good. Like a massage and pedicure. No wonder the other dogs want to stay here.
We went for a walk to the park yesterday and I wasn't too sure about walking on a leash, but after a few blocks, I figured it out. Wow, what fun that is! I get to see all the new things I never saw on the farm. There are so many dogs in the neighborhood here. They also threw the ball around for me to fetch. That's one of my favorite games. I love having a ball in my mouth for any time you feel like playing with me.
If you think I would make a good addition to your family, contact placement and ask to see me. I do love to cuddle too.
