2/20/07: Here’s your first chance to meet “Skipper”, a perky, sweet seven year young female who is going to steal someone’s heart away. She came to us yesterday properly tired from much travel, boarding and vet inspections. Today her tail is constantly wagging, her curiosity has her inspecting every nook and cranny of the house and she frequently comes over to my desk for pats. Resident Golden Sydney and I took Skipper on our regular walk today and she loved it, sniffing everything and trying to lead the whole way. Now she’s had her supper and is snoozing on a dog bed.
Skipper has had a tough life, yet her Golden resiliency and independent spirit have done her proud. She has been living outside with little care or shelter. She has grown a thick winter coat, making her legs look like big tree trunks. She loves being outdoors and especially rolling in the snow. She apparently was hit by a car (for which she showed great respect on our walk today) some years ago. She has some damage to her right hind hip which does not slow her down very much, but might keep her from swimming well. She also has the usual ear yeast infection, which is being treated, but it does make her very sensitive to touches in that area. Skipper’s ear and hip sensitivities are such that she might be best in a forever home without or with only older or absent children.
This dog is ready and needing to love someone. She needs humans who really, deeply care about her, and she will return that love in abundance and then some. She probably hasn’t had folks who understood that her life matters to her just as much as ours do to us. She needs one or two truly special people who will reach out and wrap her up for the rest of her life, the way she is already reaching out and looking. She has been with lots of dogs of all sizes, breeds and ages and has gotten on really well with all of them. She and Sydney looked like a pair of trout on their “fan hitch” leash today, doing everything together, side by side.
We’ll have more information and photos in the next few days. Please, if you’re that “right” person, don’t miss meeting and loving Skipper. She needs and deserves you.
