Sophie is a lovely 6-1/2 year old purebred Golden Retriever who came to RAGOM from a commercial breeder a couple days after Thanksgiving. She has been brought up to date on vaccinations (except for a booster this week) and is recovering nicely from her spay.

Like most dogs from a commercial breeder, Sophie is not well socialized. She gets along very well with the two resident goldens and two cats but does not feel safe with humans. Despite this, Sophie allows herself to be handled without protest. She doesn’t have a growl or a snap in her. She walks quietly on a leash between the back door and fenced yard, and is comfortable with doors and stairs. She is not housebroken but will do her business outside.

For the first 10 days Sophie preferred to hang out in her crate. She is now willing to come out of the crate on her own. Sophie loves to explore her new environment. She is interested in what goes on around her even when in the crate. While she has not yet engaged the resident dogs in play, she is clearly thinking about it.

Sophie is unwilling to let Foster Mom approach her in the house but will come into the room with her as long as she is sitting quietly. When she is in the fenced back yard she freezes in place and allows FM to pick up her leash and bring her in.

It will take time and patience to win this beautiful girl’s heart but the rewards will be tremendous.
