Profile

Zelda is a 2 ½ year old female purebred, retired breeder dog that we welcomed into our home on June 14, 2014. She is a beautiful dark red color. Zelda arrived as a shy, scared girl that requires another medium to large dog in the home to learn from.

When Zelda first arrived she did not seem to know how to drink or eat out of a dish and was not potty trained. She has been working on potty training and is catching on fairly quickly. She now eats and drinks from shallow dishes and bowls. Zelda has been to the vet and was found to be in perfect health other than the 92.2 pounds that she is carrying on her frame. She will need to loose about 25-30 pounds to be at a comfortable weight.

On July 11, 2014, Zelda was spayed and her weight is down to 87.3 pounds. She was given her booster shots and is now ready to find her forever family.

Zelda has discovered toys and loves to chew the squeakers out of them so we watch her very carefully.  She also loves to bat balls around with her large feet to occupy her time. She has a few quirks like running to greet foster mom and flopping down on her back with her belly exposed and feet waving in the air like a turtle stuck upside down on it's shell. She follows my 12 year old daughter all over the yard and house. She seems a little slower to warm up to men, but soon realizes that they pet her just as well as the women of the house do. Wherever the resident dog is you can expect Zelda to be close behind.

Zelda does still startle easily with quick movements and loud noises especially outside, but this will change as she becomes more confident and sure of herself and her environment.  She will need a forever family with a lot of patience to help her work through her issues and become the firecracker that is waiting to come out.
