Profile

We have a wonderful new addition to the RAGOM family ... his name is Storm & what a total sweetheart!! This guy is approximately 10 months old & came to us from the Storm Lake, Iowa area. He was picked up by the police after he was shot in the face. Xrays confirmed that he was shot with a small caliber bullet, probably a .22. The bullet shattered after hitting Storm's lower jaw, so there are a lot of metal fragments. Part of the lower jaw bone has been gouged, so if he bites anything hard the jaw could fracture. The vet said that facial surgery is very risky & only done if absolutely necessary because there are so many nerves in the area. The best course of action is to have him on antibiotics & see how he does over the next month or so. He needs to be on soft food & it is critical that Storm not chew on anything hard...no nylabones, rawhides, kongs, sticks, etc. The damaged jaw should heal over the next couple months & after that, he can chew whatever he wants.

When Storm first came to us, about a week ago, his face was very swollen. That has since passed & the wound is healing nicely. He was then microchipped, brought up to date on all his vaccinations, fecal negative, & heart worm negative & neutered. When the vet called after the neuter he said it was the most difficult he had ever done. Apparently Storm's testicles were very small & in the words of the vet, needed to be "dissected out". So Storm's scar is a little longer than most & he is on extra pain meds & sporting a cone for a few days yet. This young fellow is simply amazing to me. For everything Storm has been through he is just so happy, & smiling, & fun. As my daughter says...Storm is a cute dog with a cute attitude!! Couldn't have said it better myself.

What else...Storm gets along absolutely great with my 3 goldens (2 females & 1 male), & with my kids (ages 5, 11 & 14). He met a couple cats at the vet & just sniffed them & walked away. He had a couple #2 accidents the first couple days until I figured out his signals & hasn't had a problem since. He doesn't counter surf & stays out of the garbage. He does pull hard on the leash but because of his injury the vet said not to use a Gentle Leader for now. He LOVES to play!! Chase, fetch, & keep away are his favorite. Tug of war is off the list for now. He loves to have a soft toy in his mouth & carries his stuffed animals all over the house. I have never seen him jump up when greeting someone but he does jump up when playing. He was like a Mexican jumping bean when we were at the vet because he wanted to play with all the little dogs there. He does settle nicely & sleeps quietly through the night. He was crated the first couple nights...he didn't like going in, but once there, did fine. He now has free roam of the house. He rarely barks, I've not seen any separation anxiety & I think he would make an awesome running partner (once he gets the hang of the leash, that is).

Storm is just an awesome dog. If you are interested in adding him to your family, contact your RAGOM placement advisor ( [email protected] ). I will guarantee that he will easily steal your heart & give you more than you ever expected.
